Three Simple Gardening Tips

It’s a common misconception among many folks that it takes a lot of time and money to have a beautiful garden. In my mind, most of these assumptions are false. It’s not hard to put in an eye-appealing garden that will add beauty to your property and not spend much of your hard-earned cash. And gardening has been shown to benefit your health. You relax and focus when you garden and this is a form of meditation and a stress reliever.

So start out by thinking small and easy-to-maintain, when you are planning a garden. Leave the big, fancy, time-controlling gardens to folks who can hire a gardener to do the work for them. Here are some easy-care tips that you can employ to keep your garden beautiful all year round.

All gardeners have experienced the angst of attempting to maintain flower beds that are weed free. Unrelenting as you may be, it may still feel like new weeds jump through the ground all over the place. Getting down in amongst your plants to pull out individual weeds by hand might be okay, if you only have a few, but what if your garden seems to sprout more than you can easily pull up? Don’t consider using weed poison on some of these to help keep them down, you risk damaging other nearby plants, if you’re not careful. Instead, purchase weeding tools that help you to pull out weeds from the roots quickly.

Or… one of the best ways to help keep weeds to a minimum is to put down a layer of mulch around the base of your plants and in your garden beds. Managing the overgrowth with this method is a lot easier, because the odd weeds that come through will be fewer in number and easier to control.

The next step you need to take is to give your soil a little bit of fertilizer. It’s important not to over-feed plants, so choose a good quality slow-release fertilizer that will continue to feed nutrients into the plant’s root system over time.

If you really want to beautify your yard, plant some fruit trees. Right before spring. it’s possible to buy many different varieties of “bare root” stock that is inexpensive and easy to plant. Pick some trees that are decorative when they bloom in the spring and, of course, will bear a fruit that you love. Cherry trees are an excellent example. In fact, cherry blossoms are famous all around the world and many cultures have holidays that center around when the cherry blossoms are at their peak.

If you have space, try growing a small melon, such as cantaloupe, or the incredibly sweet, small varieties of watermelon. Both are fun to watch grow and even more fun to eat right off of the vine. Many vegetables are also very easy to grow and require very little care to produce great crops.

Hopefully these tips will help you get through some roadblocks you may have encountered while starting your garden in your particular region of the world.
