How to Grow a Grape Vine
Aug 21st, 2009 by Myarticle

Growing grape vines is a great hobby but how to grow grape vines is a big question. In this article I have put together some suggestions that every beginner will need to know before they are ready to start growing their own grape vines.

Start to purchase grape vines of good quality. ask yourself, what is my purpose. Some people want to grow a grape vine so they can start producing their own wine or make grape juice. Others are not interested in those things, but would rather have some tasty eating grapes. Some still, are not even interested in grapes but would just like to cover their patio with some great looking vines. Your purpose will determine what type of grape vine to select.

I know that some people would like to have both eating grapes and wine growing at the same time. Well you can. But if that’s what you’re after I would suggest that you plant two different sorts of grape vine – one that is good for eating and one that is good for wine.

Now once you know what you want your grape vines for, it’s time to go out and buy some plants. You’ll still need to know which plants are suitable for your geographical area and I would suggest that you refer this thing to the expert. The easiest thing to do is simply to go to one of the neighbors, one that already has a well growing grape vines, and ask him a couple of questions. Based on my experience, people are always more than willing to talk about their vines. Next is go and find a good site for your vine. The vines will need a lot of sun and a rich soil, so choose wisely. I strongly recommend that you build the support for your vines before you start planting. If you decided to this later on, you might damage the plants. There are many different types of support that you can use. To construct the most basic one, simply drive some stakes into the ground and then connect them with wire. If your grape vines will be growing over a wall, you don’t need to do anything at this point, but you must put a couple of nails in that wall later on. So keep that in mind.
