Home Grown Mushrooms With A Mushroom Growing Kit
Oct 16th, 2017 by Aldouspi

You can grow mushrooms at home! While you may eventually want to grow many types of mushrooms like gourmet mushrooms over time, but today let’s get you started with the most basic kit of mushrooms that anyone can use to grow at home as well.

Beautiful Mushrooms Growing in the Wild

The cheapest and most effective way to do it at home is first use a mushroom growing kit. Now the brand doesn’t matter. You can choose any brand as they all work the same. And the price of these kits tend to vary from about twenty-two dollars on up…

So what you get in mushroom kit is the growing box with a lid, of course, where your mushroom will be springing up. The kit should also contain a bag of mushroom compost and a bag of organic peat moss. The peat moss is where the mushroom spores are.

Now take everything out of the box and turn that box upside down. Using a screwdriver, you want to put some small holes in the bottom of the box for drainage purposes. Depending upon the kit you get – the box may already have the holes. And it maybe possible that you will need to get a separate rectangular planter that is about the same size and depth as the box, if you find the it does not work out for you.

So, once the holes are punched in, you want to next take the mushroom compost and layer that inside the box. Give the box a shake so its nice and even. Then get the peat moss and just layer that on top of the moss. Again, make sure its spread out nice and even. Finally, using a water spray bottle on mist, lightly moisten the top. We don’t want to water it, we don’t want to drench it, we just want to keep it nice and moist. We don’t want it wet. Put the lid on the box and place it in a warm, dark spot.

While the best time to use this kit is when it’s warmer weather, but as long as you can keep the container someplace warm and moist, you can do this anytime of the year. An easy place to start this up is under the sink in the cupboard.

What do you do next? It’s very important to spray this growing box, everyday. Just a light spray to keep it nice and moist. You really do not want this to dry out, other wise it will spoil the whole thing.

If you have done everything right and kept your container in a warm, dark, moist area – and you keep spraying it each day so it stays nice and moist – you should have a mold forming on top of the peat moss within about 14 days. Then in another fourteen to thirty days after that, the mushrooms will start to appear.

So place the lid on the box and place it in the dark warm spot you have picked out, spray everyday and wait until the mold forms. After that you can leave the lid off, but continuing your spraying until the mushrooms are grown and harvested. This information is repeated in the video below in the news section.
