While it is traditional to wear sunglasses outside to protect your eyes from UV rays and bright sunlight, sometimes you need to wear sunglasses inside, too. This is particularly true, if you are using HPS (High Pressure Sodium), LED and other types of grow lights for your seedlings and other plants.

Another problem that grow lights can cause is a distortion of color, making it difficult to monitor your plants and it also stresses your eyes. This means you also want to look for sunglasses that help balance the color in your greenhouse or grow rooms as well as protect your eyes.

A company called Method Seven manufactures sunglasses that cover these needs quite well. And as I wear glasses, I thought today I would write about their Clip-On sunglasses for plants grown using HPS lights.

This pair of clip-on sunglasses is a polycarbonate product. The lenses of the clip-on are made for Method Seven by Carl Zeiss, which is a German company that produce fantastic optics. What this product does is it balance the colors in your grow rooms being distorted under high-pressure sodium lights. For those of you who have prescription glasses, they simply clips on the outside of your current vision glasses and provide you protection.

I suggest wearing a visor, too as that will help you visually experience perfect balanced color in the grow room. all the harsh yellow lighting will be taken ou, allowing you to see what’s really going on with your plants. These lenses also protect your eyes, especially from UVC, which is prevalent in grow rooms. UVC is something that I rarely talked about in the growing community because in Nature, it is filtered out by the upper atmosphere. But there is significant UV in grow rooms and it’s important to protect your eyes.

Exposure to UVC, is like getting a little sunburn on your eye, everyday, but if you’re wearing any of the Method Seven products, you’re protected from UVC. This is a nice affordable way to see your plants, and enhancing your gardening experience. If you wear prescription glasses, you can snap these bad boys on and you’re good to go.
