Growing orchids is not a super easy task to accomplish, but it is worth the challenge because orchids are a marvelous addition to your backyard garden. Nothing is impossible to plant and grow these days, especially if you’re really passionate about it. So here are a handful of guidelines if you are fascinated to start growing orchids in their garden:
1. Know the type of orchids that grow best for your area – Before you buy your orchids, ask your local nursery what they recommend. There are many species and breeds of orchids, each of which has specific needs regarding water, lighting, and even the fertilizers to be used. For instance, orchids that originated from cold locations, don’t like excessive sunlight. Such orchids shojld be planted so as to avoid direct exposure from the sun. It is also good idea to put the pot on top of a water container to help the orchids absorb water and obtain a cooler temperature, that they need.
2. Water it accordingly – as stated orchid flowers require various kinds of watering. This is according to the type of orchids. Some orchids have to be watered daily while some needs only a twice a week watering.
3. Learn about repotting – Repotting is very important in growing orchids. When you discover rotten stems on your plants, then it’s time for you to cut and repot the orchids. This is necessary in order to avoid the rit frin=m spreading to other parts of the planrt, especially the roots. Repotting can be a little overwhelming and difficult at the beginning but with a little practice, you get the hang of it. One critical action to consider is to make sure that the pot where you will transfer your orchids is clean.
4. Find out the best fertilizer to use – While you are buying orchids, inquire at the store about the best fertilizer to use. It is not good to simply use any type of fertilizer as different flowers need different nutrients.
