With so many species of orchids (almost 25,000) we will talk about the most common varietys when it comes to repotting your orchid.These are the Dendrobium and the Phalaenopsis. Both of Wich are Epiphytic type of Orchid.Commonly refered to as air plants. Meaning the roots of the plant are not contained strictly to the potting media. They thrive in Very tropical or humid conditions. The roots are able to absorb the moisture from the air.

Only repot after the roots have extended well over the sides of the container.This could take a year a or more.Do Not repot your orchid while it is in Bloom. They are very delicate and the stress may interupt the bloom time, or cause it to loose it’s blooms.
While clay or wooden containers work fine, try to put them in a pot that has slots or openings on the sides. This allows air to move freely around the roots.Important tip- If your plant is now in a 5″ pot only repot to a 6″ pot. Remember they like to outgrow their container.
