Every good gardener knows that there is always more to learn. It is hoped that here are 10 new tips or ideas that will help the in your gardening efforts…

1) Did you know that seaweed and fish emulsion or fish fertilizer has a lot of beneficial bacteria? Just add some fish fertilizer and seaweed – just a couple of tablespoons is enough – to a watering can and then use it as part of your plant feeding routine. Beside the nutrients in the fertilizer, the beneficial bacteria going into the soil will really help your plants grow. This can be a little smelly – so store in the outside shed

2) Have seeds left over from last year? There is an easy way to check on whether your seeds will still germinate or not, so you don’t waste time to sowing them in the ground. What you do is gather up a paper towel and a little container. Soak the paper towel and place in a small plastic container. Then take about five seeds out of your old seed packet, place them on the paper towel and closed the lid on the container. The humid environment will encourage the seeds to germinate, if they’re still viable. It’s an easy test. After about seven to 10 days, if you see your seeds have germinated then they are still viable. You can use those old seeds in your garden.

3) There is an easy way to make holes in plastic pots or other containers you might use for seedling or as planters. Use a soldering iron or soldering gun. The heat of the tip of the soldering iron easily let the tip go through the plastic bottoms. This is a quick and easy way to make a lot of holes in your pots. This is much easier than trying to use a drill.

4) Aspirin is not only useful for your health, it can also good for the health of your plants – especially tomatoes. there is one plant that has immense benefits if you use aspirin and then water that plant with this aspirin. Take two tablets of aspirin – standard 325 milligrams dose – and dissolve in a 2 gallon watering can. Use the water and aspirin solution to water the foliage of your tomato plants, thoroughly. This will your tomato plants fight lot of diseases, especially fungal diseases.

5) If you have a lot of egg shells in your house you can put them to very good use. Eggshells can be a great source of calcium for your plants and it also adds a lot of nutritional benefit to your compost pile. Use a blender to pulverize your eggshells to a fine powder and this fine powder. This lets the eggshells disintegrate very quickly after adding and mixing the powder in your compost bin.

6) Epsom salt is the secret to growing great peppers, eggplants and tomatoes in your garden in soils that are deficient in magnesium and sulfur – as that’s exactly what Epsom salt contains. Just add 4 teaspoons to 2 gallons in your watering can. Then water the foliage thoroughly or soil. This works great for tomatoes and peppers as well as eggplants.

7) Make a quick trellis for your climbing plants. For this you just need some garden tape and three long wooden rods or stakes. Wrap the garden tape around the 3 stakes at one end – holding the stakes together. There will be enough give in the tape to allow you to spread the other end of the tied together stakes making a small tripod. And this is your trellis. Stick it in the ground and let your peas, beans or other climbing plants, weave their way up this simple trellis.

8) Do you like those milky white cauliflowers that you find at the supermarket? There’s an easy way to make that happen in your garden. Just hold the head leaves of the cauliflower plant together, using a little garden tape to tie them lightly. The result will be that the cauliflower will be a lot whiter at harvest time.

9) If you use a lot of plastic plant tags to identify your plants – you can recycle them. Pour some ninety-one percent rubbing alcohol into a small bowl, then dip a paper towel into the rubbing alcohol towel. Next use that paper towel to remove old markings from tags that you’ve already written on. The alcohol should easily remove marks made by a permanent marker. For all those stubborn stain that do not go away that way easily, place those tags into a little dish filled with the rubbing alcohol and let them soak. Eventually, it will be easier to rub off any remaining marks and stains.

10) For those with a compost pile or bin, here is a tip on how to accelerate the composting process. Lay out your leaves and compost material and then just run the lawn mower over it. the lawn mover blades automatically chop up the dried leaves and the compost material – it will even crush those eggshells mentioned earlier. Your leaves, small stems and other materials stems are turned into finer particles. And finer particles will decompose much faster…
