Some city folk might be thinking, they love getting their rocket in – it is so delicious, but is it something that can be grown with container vegetable gardening?
You’ll be happy to hear the answer is absolutely yes!
Rocket is remarkably easy to grow and it grows fast! From seed to edible rocket in a matter of only five to six weeks.
Rocket can be planted in a number of ways.
Firstly find your container. Depending on what container you choose you can plant the rocket in a variety of ways.
If you have the rectangular types of containers you can plant rows. That way when one row has started to grow you can plant another and when that row has started, again plant another and so on.
That way you continually have fresh rocket growing in circulation. I wasn’t so smart the first time I planted rocket and didn’t do that. But with experience, you learn!
If you have a rounded container you can again plant in sections as you like. You do want to have quite a few plants growing at once to be sure you have enough leaves to pick for eating.
Give your seeds a little space between themselves when planting. About 1-2 inches is enough between seeds.
Don’t plant your seeds too deep – less than 1 centimeter is fine and water well once planted.
You will find your rocket will be sprouting within three to five days. Then watch the speed at which it grows!
Your rocket will be ready for eating within five to six weeks.
Once you get to taste your own rocket from your container vegetable gardening efforts, you will find it tastes much better and stronger than that in the shop.
Also it is such a joy to pick the rocket as and when you need instead of having bags of rocket in the fridge that you have to eat before it goes soggy.
Container vegetable gardening is a great way to grow rocket that is great tasting and saves you time and money from buying shop bought rocket.
All the best for your container vegetable gardening.
