We all are fascinated by the flames and warmth of a fire, but most of us do not have a fireplace in our homes. Of course, if you live out in the country or have a large back yard, you might have a fire ring or fire pit where you can enjoy an outside fire on a cool fall evening. If you don’t have those options, than a fire bowl is a great alternative.

There are patio fire bowls that burn either wood or propane ranging from under $100 to above $300. Such bowls can be on a stand you set on the floor. And then there are chimineas as well as propane fueled bowls mounted on a table.

Fire bowls consist of a copper or iron bowl which contains the fire, that is elevated above the surface via support legs or a pedestal. These raised structures create the most campfire like aesthetic while simultaneously offering modern conveniences such as ease of use. Note that there are some bowls bowls that are made of aluminum.

Patio fire pits enable you to sit outdoors around a fire anytime the weather permits. Imagine the warm glow, the popping and crackling of the wood. Is there anything that beats those moments when sharing beers with friends or making s’mores with the kids, while the flames are flickering? A sturdy, metal fire bowl is safe and may be used on the patio or deck in the backyard or lawn. Many come with screens that can add a supplementary layer of safety by catching sparks and hot ash drifting with the breeze.

Some of these firebowls are quite heavy, being made of iron and are meant to be placed in a permanent spot. But other bowls are portable – move them where you will or take them to the beach. You will also find bowls that are part of tables where you can rest drinks while watching the flames.

As a side note, you may have heard of the hibachi (火鉢, “fire bowl”), which is a traditional Japanese heating device. It consists of a round, cylindrical or a box shaped open topped container, made from or lined with a heatproof material and designed to hold burning charcoal. These are used for heating and cooking.

So why not get a nice fire bowl and enjoy the flames and warmth of burning wood outdoors, at night, with the company of good friends and family
