Need fun, creative, birthday party ideas for the fall and winter months? There’s bowling, roller-skating, and… bowling again? But it doesn’t have to be that way. As something of a party expert, I’d like to offer up a few cool ideas for your cold-weather kids’ parties.
Think Outside The House
First consider an outdoor party or an indoor party with an outdoor component. Letting 20 or so sugar-crazed kids outside to burn off some energy is a good idea for a variety of reasons. Just the very fact that you’re throwing an outdoor party during a time of year when kids are spending day after day inside almost guarantees that your party will be awesome. If needed, heated tents or garages can help keep guests toasty.
Outdoor winter party unappealing? Is the thought of 20 children stampeding through your home even more unappealing? You can always rent a large room or gym at your local school, church, or community center. This type of wide-open space obviously lends itself to a lot of different sports and games. Of course, I like to recommend inflatable rentals – maybe a triple bungee run or moonwalk bouncer to make it more fun. Once you rent yourself some tables and chairs, and some food machines, you’ll have all the makings of a fantastic indoor extravaganza, with very little fuss or cleanup required. Obviously, you’re an excellent party planner.
Party Theme Ideas
A creative, well-coordinated theme party can work any time of the year. However, there are some themes that actually lend themselves to the fall and winter months; here are a few idea starters to get your creative party planning juices flowing.
Jocks n’ Jills Party
This is the time of year for sports with all kinds of football going on, the baseball playoffs, and the start of basketball and hockey season. Plus, NASCAR is in its championship “Chase”. With the variety of different sports and related activities at your disposal, you could easily make one or more the focal point of your party. Don’t forget to make up some competitions like a backyard obstacle course or game of Horse at the driveway hoop.
Rock Star Diva Party
If the sports theme skews a bit toward the boys, then here’s something that the girls will enjoy. Start indoors with some fancy nail polish and jewelry crafts, and then give everybody a chance to perform some Rock Star Diva Karaoke. When everybody is looking and feeling totally glam, it’s time to head outside for the latest Hollywood fitness craze (whatever it happens to be the week of your party.) After some gourmet cupcakes and fruit punch spritzers, everyone piles into their waiting cars and heads for home. Congrats, you’ve just thrown the A-List party of the season.
Winter Wonderland Party
Start with snowflake invitations and then plan theme-appropriate activities like a penguin piñata, a colored ice cube scavenger hunt, and a long warm-up session in a birthday theme bounce house. If you really want to take your party to the next level, bring in a hot dog steamer, cotton candy machine, or to really blow the kid’s minds, a sno-cone machine.
