Creating A Bamboo Fountain
August 2nd, 2009 by Myarticle

Having a bamboo fountain provides a certain magical ambiance to your home garden.  Bamboo fountains, an original creation of the Japanese, were made specifically as a way to keep deer away from rice paddies.  Therefore, it isn’t strange to learn that they have been called “deer chasers”.

Monks made a new use for the bamboo fountain; this time as a way to time their mediations.  Today, more people are intrigued by the bamboo fountain because it is made of eco-friendly material.  Still, the bamboo fountain possesses a simple design and charm that attracts people.  The typical bamboo fountain can be used inside the home and out in the garden.

If you want to make a bamboo fountain, all you need are few simple pieces.  You will need bamboo, tubing, a pump, a base, rod, screws, and container.  If you are building an outdoor bamboo fountain, it is a good idea to use a quality bamboo that will not break under variable weather conditions.  Apart from practical considerations, if you mean the bamboo fountain for inside use, you might consider polishing the bamboo to make it more appealing and longer lasting.  You will also need a screwdriver, wood saw, and a drill to make your bamboo fountain.

Once you’re ready to build, you should start by cutting the bamboo sticks to the preferred length.  There will be three bamboo sticks in the construction.  Two sticks will secure the moving part of the fountain while another will be connected to the nozzle.  The moving part of the fountain is the required in your bamboo fountain because it is responsible for collecting the water and emptying it as the weight of the collected water increases.  Use a drill to put holes in through the bamboo sticks and the moving part.  These holes will accommodate the rod that allows the fountain to pivot.

For the second [phase] of construction, you will take a tube and connect it from the pump up through the bamboo.  The pipe will be capped by a nozzle made of bamboo.  All parts of the bamboo fountain should be fitted to a base.  Your bamboo fountain is properly built when water coming out of the nozzle falls inside the moving part of the fountain.

If you’re kind of person who would rather someone else did it, then you may prefer purchasing a bamboo fountain kit from your building supply store.

If you do get a bamboo fountain, you might like to know how to maintain one.  Maintenance focuses on two areas.  You will focus on the water pump care.  You need to have the water pump below the surface of your retaining pool when running.  It must be cleaned on a regular basis.  The second aspect of bamboo fountain care is scheduled water replacement.  If your bamboo fountain is on all the time, you won’t have to change it as often but it is still good to keep on a schedule to avoid smell, stagnant water.
