Helen asks…
hydroponics?
Wanting to do a small hydroponics garden for my first grader and I can’t find a store to buy the mediums or the fertilizer can somebody please help… I do not want to buy online or guess, really i can’t, lol no credit card. I am planning on using an ebb and flow system with tomato plants.
Garden Lover answers:
You can get bags of lava rock to use from Home Depot for $3-4 for a 1/2 cubic ft bag. Put it in a pot. You could use a liquid fertilizer.

What is the best pre-built hydroponics grow box?
I don’t really feel like building my own hydroponics grow box. I have read on the forums that most people do build their own but, I’m just not good with tools, and don’t have the time. I want to order the best hydroponics grow box that I can but not pay to much money either. There seems to be companies like BC Northern lights and another company that looks good called homegrown hydroponics and was wondering what the best one is?
Garden Lover answers:
Both Homegrown Hydroponics and BC Northern Lights both make nice grow boxes. I was considering buying one from BC Northern Lights for a while before I found out that they ran with heat problems. It seems that that BC Northern Lights does not have enough fans to keep it running cool enough. I have looked at some of the new grow boxes from Homegrown Hydroponics and they seem to have way more fans to keep them cooler and they are way less expensive.

Linda asks…
What type of hydroponics will work the best for tomatoes?
I am new and have never grown with hydroponics before. I have been studying them and a water culture system sounds like the easiest to get started on. Will tomatoes and peppers grow in a water culture setup or should I try something else?
Garden Lover answers:
Tomatoes and peppers grow very well in a hydroponic system. These are recommended plants for beginners as they will grow well in just about any system – regardless of how simple it maybe…
Lizzie asks…
Information on hydroponics and herbs wanted please?
I would like any information, web addresses etc. you have on making a simple hydroponics system at home or hydroponics in general. This is a school project. I would like any information on herbs, too.
Thank you very much for your help. I’m in Year 8 at school.
Garden Lover answers:
Here is a good 10 lesson journal of hydroponics. It should give you some great insights, step, by step. Http://www.hydroponicsonline.com/lessons/table-of-contents.htm
